North Carolina Arboretum – bonsai exhibit
In February I took a trip the NC arboretum – a place I’ve been meaning to visit for some time to check out the bonsai exhibit.
Little did I realize until arriving that the exhibit is outdoors, and many (most) of the bonsai plants are stored away from visitors inside where they are protected from the cold winter air. The ones I was able to photograph below are those hardy enough to endure the winter months. They were truly magical!
While at the arboretum I also took advantage of the hiking trails and gazed upon some beautiful flowers. I’m looking forward to a warmer weather visit when the full bonsai exhibit is on display and even more flowers are in bloom. Hover over each picture for a caption.
Big Rock Trail
Big Rock trail is one of my favorite hikes in DuPont State Forest because it’s open and SUNNY! The thick sprawl of trees that covers so much of the eastern United States is wonderful and life-giving, but when I’m out hiking I sure appreciate the open sky above me with the sun on my skin, as opposed to being always beneath a canopy of branches and leaves and their unavoidable shade–though a nice respite on hotter days.

God opens a window.” Yes.
Hooker Falls
Some photos I took on a recent jaunt (my very first visit) to the very popular Hooker Falls in DuPont State Forest.
