WASHINGTON D.C. – IN PICTURES
Took a recent road trip to our nation’s capitol for the first time to do some long over-due sightseeing.
Some random things I noticed about the city: TONS of runners, D.C. dwellers love themselves some Starbucks (there ain’t much else to choose from it seemed), lots of tall leather boots.

wintertime view from Jump Off Rock
Out of town visitors are the perfect excuse to visit Jump Off Rock in local Laurel Park. The drive up is scenic and relaxing and the view never disappoints, putting this beautiful area of the Blue Ridge & Pisgah Mountains in perspective from the incredible bird’s eye view.
I love the deep blue hues of these ancient mountains.
Stella Deer’s backyard visitor
I was finally able to snap a photo of this beautiful bird that’s been visiting my backyard the past few months.
Many times lately, upon rising in the morning I look out my house’s big broad windows and see him perched on a branch in the same tree, back where the yard turns more wild and diverges into woods, no doubt where he has his nest hidden somewhere among the thickness.
I asked my uncle, who’s quite the bird expect, for help identifying him, and he believes it to be a Cooper’s Hawk. I was glad to finally be able to give our visitor a name!
