I’m sure I’m not the only one out there that feels like every once in a while they need a vacation.
Or not even a vacation necessarily, but a little escape. A mini deviance from the day to day routine to keep me feelin ALIVE.
Not because life sucks, but just because it’s nice to have a real break from the “normal” sometimes, and simply a change of scenery.
As you probably already know, I live in the mountains in Asheville, NC. I feel fortunate enough to have access to a plethora of mountainscape beauties, all under a few hours drive away.
Connecting to nature in these beautiful spots helps re-align me, makes me feel energized and renewed, and reminds me that there’s so much more to life than go go go and uninspiring repetition that sometimes we all fall victim to in our busy day-to-day lives.
Join me on a canoe ride and hike during a recent weekend rendezvous to Boone, NC.
Ahhh to be on the water! One of my favorite things. It felt so good to be in a canoe, just gently gliding down the New River.
Also took an amazing hike to a place called Elk Knob.
Saw a bunny on the way up! Can you spot him?
And a cute lil inchworm : )
The gorgeous view from the top.
A storm coming in.
Also saw some pretty horseys while in Boone.
And what’s no weekend escape complete without? A trip to a local brewery of course! : )
Some excellent IPAs from Applachian Mountain Brewery (one of them their new Baba Budan, a coffee IPA, is my one of my new favorite beers! If you haven’t tried it, ya GOTTA : )
Leave a comment and tell me: do you also find little escapes from the daily “grind” imperative to your happiness? What places around where YOU live do you enjoy escaping to?
Fun!! I agree–it’s great to get away for a day or so & see/do something different–glad you take advantage of your free time & “just do it”!
indeed it is! yeah, you’re right, just gotta DO IT!!
Hi YoYo!
What great photos, as usual. Terry use to do the grandfather mountain marathon so I’m very familiar with the Boone area. What a great getaway spot. Lots to see and wonderful hiking spots. Glad you had time to regroup and enjoy nature. I guess my favorite getaway is going to the beach with the family. Not really relaxing but a wonderful way to reconnect. Looking forward to some Fall photos.
Thanks LP : ) I’ve never been to Grandfather Mountain but I’d like to go sometime soon!
oohhh yes, the beach is definitely my fave! also hoping to make a little escape to there too soon! : )
Passed through Boone last year, thought it was amazing. 🙂 I still think the Carolinas are among the prettiest parts of the country.
oh cool! yeah Boone area is very purdy. yes, parts of the Carolinas are pretty amazing!
Good way to end the day with an IPA 🙂
that’s right! : )
