These are some photos from a recent day trip to Gorges State Park, NC and popular hike to Rainbow Falls.
When I reached the waterfall, it was much bigger than I had imagined it would be.
The winds carried mists of water from the big powerful cascading waterfall across the air and onto my face.
When my hiking partner and I stopped to eat our packed homemade sandwiches for lunch, GVB fell right asleep next to us on a big rock– surely exhausted not only by the steep inclines of the hike, but no doubt as well from the sheer loudness of the close-by rushing water that reached volumes that at times was briefly, at least for me, slightly overwhelming.
Rainbow Falls just might be my new favorite waterfall spot.
Tell me in the comments: What’s your favorite waterfall destination?
Terry and I went to Rainbow Falls when I was pregnant with Kelley. We never made it to the Falls themselves as I was sure I was going to go into early labor. Too much hiking for one close to delivery time. Lol
haha! glad you played it safe!
this has to be one of my favorite waterfalls, the way the water cascades through the shattered and split rock faces, leaves me speechless.
it’s a magical spot
Gorgeous! Don’t know if I’d last on the hike, but would love to check it out someday!
You could pace yourself! : ) It’s well worth it!
