my 5 o’clock shadow

I love how the lighting changes throughout the day as the earth turns and the sun appears to move across the sky.  It sure does magical things– changes colors, shadows, depth.  Here’s a photo I recently snapped of my 5 o’clock shadow (literally).

the Gingko tree

While other trees have given way to wind and cold and shed their leaves and colors in accordance with the ways of fall, the Gingko tree holds fast to its bright yellow leaves, celebrating with its colors a bit longer, rebelling against the rest of the outdoors’ steady march toward winter.

in the age of materialism

Want want want. I want want want.  These material things, I know they’ll eventually fall away– but I think as long as we don’t get too caught up in the “want want want” and know that these things aren’t the end all be all, then there’s nothing wrong with a little indulgence now and then. The material world’s an undeniable part of human existence and I say we should just have fun with it– because pushing against the undeniable is just as foolish and futile as the other extreme.  Like most things in life, it’s all about balance.  That said, here’s what I find myself currently lusting after….

Alice and Wonderland doorknob

An Alice and Wonderland doorknob! Looove it.  I wanna walk out a door with this handle everyday.

Il Nostro Caro Angelo by Lucio Battisti

Il Nostro Caro Angelo by Lucio Battisti on vinyl.  I have the cassette tape but it’s original (’73) and wearing out…

wood handled knife set A new knife set! Mine is pretty pathetic– with missing knives, dull knives, & knives that probably don’t even belong!  And with all the cooking I do, surely I’ll talk myself into justifying this purchase soon… (hopefully!)

I hadn’t worn nail polish in years, but just recently I finally broke down and bought a bottle (a vegan brand) — in what else, hot pink. Now I want every color of the rainbow, and then some.

What are you lusting after?

Pygmy Jerboa

I happened across an article the other night about some of the tiniest mammals in the world.  One of them I’d never heard of caught my eye.  It didn’t look like any animal I’d ever seen before.  It was called a Pygmy Jerboa, and chances are the name is as foreign to you as it was to me.  I have this great little animal encyclopedia so I went straight to it to see if I could find this strange creature there, and sure enough, there he was!

Here, let me introduce you…
